Biochemical Society Transactions Oral Communications Prize winner

Christopher R. Pudney

Christopher R. Pudney graduated from the University of Bath in 2005 with a first class undergraduate master’s degree in Biochemistry. His interest in enzymology led him to take on a challenging Ph.D. and a subsequent postdoc position with Professor Nigel Scrutton at the University of Manchester. Initially, he studied quantum mechanical tunnelling reactions in enzymes, which represent an entirely new mechanism of enzyme action. Latterly, his research has focused on protein structure/motion and its relationship to biological function. Using advanced biophysical techniques, it is possible to disentangle this relationship, providing novel insight into how enzymes fundamentally work.
